A couple in Westfield has been given five years probation after receiving nearly $120,000 in benefits that they were not entitled to. In addition to probation, the couple has been ordered to repay the benefits.

A Westfield couple who received $119,990 in Social Security and veterans benefits they were not entitled to was ordered to serve five years’ probation and make restitution for $120,000, U. S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. reported Tuesday.

Allene Spearbeck, 56, and her husband, Harold Spearbeck, 66, were convicted of theft of government property. Between November 2004 and March 2009, Harold Spearbeck, while working as a truck driver for DTL Inc., collected disability benefits from Social Security and the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to Assistant U.
